Uroflowmetry (Urine Flow Test) – Patient Information.

 

Uroflowmetry is a simple, non-invasive test that measures the flow of urine. It helps evaluate urinary symptoms like slow stream, difficulty urinating, or feeling of incomplete emptying. It’s commonly used to detect conditions such as enlarged prostate (BPH), urethral stricture, or bladder dysfunction.

 

Before the Test:

 

Arrive with a full bladder. Do not urinate for at least 1–2 hours before the test.

 

Drink 2–3 glasses of water (300–500 mL) about an hour before.

 

Inform your doctor about any medicines you're taking.

 

 

During the Test:

 

You will be asked to urinate into a special funnel or toilet connected to a flow meter.

 

The device measures the speed and amount of your urine.

 

Try to urinate as you normally would, without straining or pausing.

 

You will have privacy during the test.

 

 

After the Test:

 

The procedure is painless and takes only a few minutes.

 

A bladder scan may be done afterward to check for leftover urine.

 

Results help your doctor plan further treatment or tests if needed.

This test helps assess your bladder outlet and function.
